Supply River Mill Vineyard is situated on the western slope of the Tamar River in northern Tasmania.

We have been a family operation for two generations and produce a single-site Pinot Noir, always selecting the best fruit in limited quantities from hand-tended vines that are now reaching maturity.

John Sumner planted the 2500 Pinot Noir vines on a hillside paddock overlooking the Tamar River in 2004 at close intervals of roughly 1.5 by 1.5 m. Today the viticulture is the handwork of his daughter and son-in-law. We collaborate with Swiss winemaker, Matthias Utzinger, of Utzinger Wines. Each year we release a single-site, premium Pinot Noir, which balances fruit resonance and complexity.

All aspects of the viticulture aim to capture in the bottle the rich fruit flavours from the mild, slightly humid western Tamar. Our variegated soils - volcanic, sand and clay - and our blend of Burgundian and Swiss clones add complexity.

The Supply River Mill is a nearby landmark of historical interest.

Our symbol is adapted from the seal of the revolutionary Jorgen Jorgensen who sailed in these waters in 1804 and five years later seized control of Iceland, overthrowing Danish colonial rule and instituting a short-lived republic.

He returned to Tasmania as a convict, becoming one of the mythical figures of early Van Diemen’s Land.
